KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday said strong and gusty winds, which have turned the weather chilly in Karachi, would continue to blow till today evening. 

Westerly waves are affecting Balochistan and Sindh and due to the influence of this system, strong winds started blowing in Karachi from Monday evening, the Met Office said.

According to the Met Department, winds are blowing from the northeast at a speed of 34 to 36 kilometres per hour. The wind’s speed can reach 45km an hour, it added.

The meteorological department said the temperature in Karachi on Tuesday morning was 17°C.

Meanwhile, the PMD has also forecast thunderstorms and snowfall over the hills in Balochistan and upper parts of the country on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Met Office had informed that a westerly wave was likely to enter Balochistan on February 25 and might grip parts of the country on February 26.

“Under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over the hills) with few heavy falls is expected in Chaghi, Noushki, Kharan, Panjgur, Gwadar, Awaran, Khuzdar, Kalat, Lasbella, Sibbi, Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel and Kohlu on February 25 and 26.”

The Met Office had predicted cloudy weather with gusty winds in southern parts of Sindh on February 25 and 26.

The department warned that the wind-thunderstorm might damage loose structures like electric poles, vehicles and solar panels.
