Former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf Sunday passed away in a Dubai hospital at the age of 79, Geo News reported citing diplomatic sources. 

The former military ruler had been undergoing treatment for an ailment at an American Hospital Dubai.

Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943 in Delhi, British India. He got the commission from Pakistan Military Academy Kakul on April 19, 1964.

He was promoted to the rank of general in 1998 and took over as the chief of army staff (COAS).
