SAFETY COORDINATOR:

SUMMARY:

The Safety Coordinator, reporting to the Director of General Services, is responsible for establishing and enforcing safety standards within the organization. This includes developing and implementing safety policies, procedures, and guidelines that comply with local laws, regulations, and accreditation standards. They ensure a safe working environment for all employees, clients, visitors, and vendors by monitoring safety regulations and supporting emergency preparedness efforts. Additionally, they investigate accidents and incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. The Safety Coordinator also collaborates with other departments to promote safety initiatives and maintains communication with external organizations to stay informed and compliant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in developing and implementing policies, protocols, and procedures related to health, safety, and security.
  • Assists with emergency management as well as updating the SFRC emergency management plan on an annual basis. Ensures SFRC meets all standards with regard to emergency preparedness and evacuations.
  • Appoints and coordinates with Security and Safety Officers for all SFRC facilities to ensure compliance with OSHA and CARF standards. Leads Safety Committee meetings.
  • Maintains Security Officer schedule and shift coverage.
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with employee safety signage, equipment, and MSDS sheets and manuals at each facility.
  • Assists with strategy, planning, oversight, and scheduling of all safety and security-related training, including vehicle safety, property safety and food safety, as noted above.
  • Serves as a point of contact for teams and individuals involved in the emergency management and coordinates with the internal management for input.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for safety inspections, incidents and training.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety strategies, plans and procedures, and adjust as needed.
  • Provide guidance and support to management and employees on safety-related matters.
  • Stay updated about emerging safety trends, regulations and best practices to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Creates long and short-term plans, setting milestones and tracking adherence to deadlines.
  • Responsible for preparing the presentation items for regular update meetings and follow-up on action items. Responsible for communicating any important decisions or action items made during those meetings.
  • Completes other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  1. Proficiency in safety auditing, inspection and identifying hazards.
  2. Well-versed in creating and editing emergency response plans tailored to various scenarios.
  3. Familiar with compliance with OSHA standards and other relevant safety regulations.
  4. In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards and best practices.
  5. Expertise in using and maintaining safety equipment like fire extinguishers, eye protection and hazardous material protection.
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
  8. Attention to detail and the ability to enforce safety procedures and protocols.
  9. Knowledge of safety laws and regulations applicable to a healthcare environment.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene or a related field.
  2. 3+ years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in a healthcare context.
  3. Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification or Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) (Preferred)
  4. Knowledge of emergency response and crisis management.(Preferred)
  5. Experience in managing safety in diverse work environments. (Preferred)
  6. A valid driving license and knowledge of first-aid techniques.
