Description

In support of Minnesota’s largest county, Communications is dedicated to effectively connecting Hennepin County’s people with the programs, services and information they need via county websites. As part of the Website Communications Team, the Web Developer’s primary responsibility is to support the county’s content management system (Sitecore) by building and updating web templates, applying usability best practices and adhering to the county’s accessibility standards. In addition, the candidate must be capable of providing ongoing assistance (including training as necessary) to the Web Communications team and other teams, as needed.



Location and hours:


This position is hybrid and will be performed both onsite at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with occasional evenings and/or weekends.


While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

This is a full-time benefit earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Hennepin County to apply for this position. Limited duration employees not eligible.


This position is internally classified as an Information Technology (IT) Developer II.

At this time, employees may be eligible to receive an additional cash merit of up to $2253.84 that can be earned annually based on performance.



In this position, you will :

  • Develop and support valid, semantic code for resident-facing websites within the Sitecore environment—troubleshoot problems, assist with upgrades, and implement updates and enhancements following Hennepin County’s accessibility standards and usability best practices.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI and back-end Sitecore developers to provide technical support and fulfill development requests and improve development and deployment processes across multiple environments.
  • Implement and maintain custom analytics code for more robust data collection across the Hennepin County public website portfolio.
  • Create documentation supporting code structure and integrations.
Need to have:

  • One of the following:
    • Four years or more of technology experience.
    • An approved information technology certificate and two years or more of IT experience.
    • Completion of five college/vocational technical technology courses and two years or more of IT experience.
    • Completion of an approved IT Hennepin County internship and two years or more of information technology experience.
    • Two-year college/vocational technical degree in a technology field and two years or more of IT experience.
    • Bachelor's degree in a technology field and one year or more of information technology experience.
Nice to have:
  • Experience:
    • Executing web solutions with Visual Studio, in web content management systems including Sitecore.
    • Front-end web development using HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, and responsive design.
    • Following style guides and/or design systems.
    • Using Azure DevOps or other version control system for collaboration and code management.
  • Knowledge of:
    • User experience (UX) development best practices, including roles played by content strategy and information architecture.
    • Web accessibility best practices, including meeting WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 standards.
    • Agile methodologies and tools.
  • Ability to:
    • Leverage creative problem solving when confronted with issues, change and complexity.
    • Effectively work in collaboration with other developers, communication specialists, managers, and customers.
    • Provide excellent customer service and interact with end users.
    • Work independently and collaboratively.
