ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE: $38,000 to $42,638 annually, dependent upon qualifications, plus a comprehensive benefits package to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement System

NATURE OF WORK : Under direct supervision performs professional work of moderate difficulty providing; provides assistance to crime victims and their families involved in adult and juvenile cases; training to volunteer advocates; provides assistance to victims and witnesses of crimes; performs related work as assigned.



Essential Functions

(Illustrative Only) Orients victims, witnesses, and family members to the court process and explains their rights throughout that process; makes referrals to social service agencies and compensation program; provides court accompaniment for victim and witnesses; provides training to volunteer advocates; assists in report preparation; may interview victims, witnesses, and significant individuals.

Minimum Qualifications


A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in behavioral science, criminal justice, education, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education; one (1) year of experience in teaching or social service; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and the ability to be covered by county insurance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:
  • Arizona criminal justice system procedures and process;
  • Arizona Victims' Rights Statutes or ability to obtain;
  • community resources state and county regulations and procedures relating to AHCCCS;
  • methods and procedures used in determining eligibility for indigent services;
  • interviewing and investigative techniques;
  • modern office practices and procedures;
  • training techniques;
  • human behavior.
Working skill in:
  • statistical data maintenance and report writing.

Ability to:
  • interact with and advocate for clients from a variety of demographic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds and circumstances;
  • react quickly and calmly in emotional situations;
  • listen and respond professionally;
  • establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public;
  • follow written and verbal instructions;
  • read, write and speak English;
  • communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is primarily performed under direct supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office or court setting with appropriate climate controls. Requires driving within the county and on occasion outside of the county.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting majority of time; walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met

Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem-solving skills are important
