Job Description

The Trust Officer is responsible for the management of trust and estate accounts and the development of new trust business You will engage personally in a variety of trust administration, compliance and business development activities to achieve goals set for department and Bank.

Additional Details:

  • Meet with trust beneficiaries and investment advisors, managing account income tax issues, initiating remittances, arranging for court accountings when applicable, and arranging for distributions and/or terminations of accounts.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of trust account matters to uphold fiduciary responsibility.
  • Collaborate with attorneys as needed to direct drafting of trust documents, ensuring Bank's duties, liabilities, and responsibilities are specified clearly in trust documents.
  • Serves as a member of the Trust Management Committee and Trust Investment Committee.
  • Handle client and prospective complex inquiries concerning trust services and specific account administration problems.
  • Develop and expand new trust business through networking with internal and external referral sources to help achieve department short term and long-term growth goals.
  • Broaden trust business by enhancing relationships with existing trust clients and cultivating new business sources to support the expansion of the Bank's trust business.
  • Support trust department's compliance with federal, state, and fiduciary laws and regulations.
  • Provide guidance, training, and technical assistance to trust staff and participate in developing and implementing trust policies and procedures, programs

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of technical components of estate and trust administration, estate taxation, fiduciary income taxation, gift taxation, generation skipping taxation, accounting, probate and trust processes and various written estate planning instruments, usually acquired through related work experience or 4-year degree program, required to prepare and review tax and accounting products.
  • Analytical, accounting and personal computer skills are needed to analyze and prepare tax data for returns.
  • Candidate must have experience reading legal documents. Demonstrate solid problem solving, research and analytical skills as well as database experience.
  • Additional expertise in Sungard Auto-Trust accounting system helpful and other service bureau expertise as needed.
