Position Overview
The Shelter Ombudsman and Compliance Administrator plays a critical role in
advocating for shelter residents and ensuring that operations at all AIC and MWRD
shelter locations adhere to the highest compliance standards. This role involves
addressing resident grievances, conducting impartial investigations, mediating conflicts,
and implementing corrective actions. The successful candidate will work closely with
shelter management, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to foster an
environment of trust and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Advocacy Grievance Resolution:
o Serve as the primary contact for shelter residents to report concerns and
file grievances.
o Conduct impartial investigations into resident complaints and mediate
conflicts to achieve equitable resolutions.
Compliance Oversight:
o Monitor and ensure adherence to operational guidelines and regulatory
standards established by AIC and MWRD across shelter locations.
o Review and update policies and procedures to maintain compliance with
evolving regulatory requirements.
Training Education:
o Develop and implement training programs for shelter staff on grievance
procedures, compliance standards, and effective conflict resolution.
o Provide guidance and support to staff on best practices for maintaining
resident safety and dignity.
Documentation Reporting:
o Maintain detailed records of all grievances, investigations, and compliance
activities.
o Prepare comprehensive reports for internal leadership and regulatory
bodies, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Stakeholder Engagement:
o Collaborate with internal teams, shelter management, and external
agencies to address systemic issues and improve overall service quality.
o Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to proactively
adjust practices and policies.
Qualifications
Educational Background:
o Bachelors degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Criminal Justice,
or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
Professional Experience:
o A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar role involving resident
advocacy, compliance administration, or ombudsman services in a shelter,
social services, or regulatory environment.
o Direct experience working with AIC and/or MWRD guidelines is highly
desirable.
Skills Competencies:
o Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
o Strong analytical and investigative abilities with a keen attention to detail.
o Proven capability to handle sensitive information confidentially and
impartially.
o Ability to work effectively across multiple locations and manage competing
priorities.
o Proficiency in using data management and reporting tools.
