Job Summary:

The Safety Manager will be responsible for partnering with site supervision to execute company safety policies and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. This position must be able to demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with Operations, Superintendents, and lead foreman. The Safety Manager must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and theft of equipment.

· Participates in routine job site visits, as well as conducts safety assessments on crews during routine site visits.

· Provides guidance to field personnel, project managers, Executive Management on matters concerning health and safety, public safety, and environmental safety.

· Inspects safety equipment; recommends replacements when necessary.

· Drafts reports, highlighting dangerous procedures, equipment, and other risks for management review.

· Reviews, revises, maintains, and implements the organization’s safety, and security policies and procedures.

· Maintains sites such as Avetta, Appruv, Building Connected, ISNetworld

· Review current safety training and executes revisions, improvements, and updates.

· Develops and implements a system to report, monitor, and correct safety issues.

· Collaborates with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) representatives’ audits and inspections; documents corrective actions taken.

· Adopts a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment; provides training and guidance to employees via safety bulletins, documentation, and training meetings.

· Maintains knowledge of hazard prevention and safety best practices, equipment, and developments.

· Facilitates new hire orientation training.

· Conducts accident investigations and recommends corrective action, if necessary, based upon incidents and/or trends. Determines the cause and identifies the means of prevention.

· Prepares various forms of written communication including, but not limited to, company newsletter articles, toolbox talks, policy development, site specific safety plans, procedures and correspondence.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Possess an excellent understanding of the company’s industry.

· Possess strong interpersonal skills to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment.

· Candidate must be self-motivated and flexible to accommodate changes to the company’s business strategies.

· Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Ability to identify unsafe situations or potentially unsafe situations.

· Thorough understanding of electrical principles and health and safety laws. 

· Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field required.

· Successful Completion of the OSHA 30 Certification

· OSHA DOL Card

· Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in Electrical Construction field.

 

 

Physical Requirements:

· Standing – Remaining on one’s feet in an upright position at a workstation without moving about, for extended periods of time.

· Walking – Moving about on foot.

· Sitting – Remaining in the normal seated position for extended periods.

· Lifting – Raising or lowering an object (50-150 pounds) from one level to another (including upward pulling).

· Carrying – Transporting an object, usually holding it in the hands or arms, or on the shoulder, e.g. tools, equipment, and materials up to 100 pounds and up to 400 feet.

· Pushing – Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force.

· Pulling – Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the forces.

· Ascending or descending ladders, lifts, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.

· Maintaining balance to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching or running on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.

· Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

· Bending legs at the knees, ability to come to rest on knees.

· Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.

· Crawl over, under and into equipment as necessary. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.

· Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

· Holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with hand(s). Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand(s).

· Picking, pinching or otherwise working primarily with fingers, rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

· Perceiving attributes of objects, e.g. size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

· Work environments may be noisy, congested, and/or in confined spaces.

· Must be able to read and understand technical documents such as blueprints.

· The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

· Clean driving record (MVR) with the expectation of driving daily.

 

Working Conditions:

· Ability to perform duties in extreme varying temperatures, e.g. exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions, on your feet 8-10 hours a day.

· Work from all types of ladders, stepladders.

· Perform work at various heights, up to 50’ from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, or other areas.

· Wear PPE, e.g. hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, masks, and ear plugs at all times, and when applicable.

· Work in restricted areas, switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, and vaults.

· Follow special procedures including contamination control, noise control, vibration, building system awareness and procedures.
