Our lab is part of the F.M. Kirby Neurobiology Center and the Department of Otolaryngology and is in the Center for Life Sciences building at Boston Childrens Hospital. We work on the function, dysfunction, and repair of the inner ear. Our goal is to develop novel therapies for the restoration of hearing and balance due to genetic disorders. This Research Assistant I will be responsible for:
+ Design and carry out sophisticated molecular biology experiments, including cloning, subcloning, plasmid preps and amplifications, PCR, Q-PCR, design and validation of CRISPR/Cas9 constructs, protein purification, western blots, etc.
+ Assist with planning specific research procedures and coordinating schedules of experiments and procedures.
+ Develop and troubleshoot new techniques specific to the lab.
+ Maintain accurate records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed.
+ Compile and help analyze data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.
+ Demonstrate basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants, technicians, research fellows, residents, and students.
+ Troubleshoot procedures if experimental results are unexpected or the quality of specimens is poor. May suggest alternative routine procedures to crosscheck own findings.
+ Perform techniques typically required for the laboratory/study.
+ Help maintain model systems, including colony maintenance, genotyping, pairing, record keeping
To qualify, you must have the following:
+ Bachelor's degree in STEM or Psychology.
+ A Masters degree and additional certifications in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Genetics (will qualify for Research Assistant II).
+ Strong organizational and analytical skills.
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
+ Prior lab experience is helpful but not required.
+ Experience with genomics, genetics, or molecular biology is a plus.
+ A two year time commitment is preferred.
