Role: Packaging Engineer In this role, you will manage the package development, implementation, and documentation across our NPI and legacy portfolio of connected fitness units and replacement parts. You're an integral partner to the global hardware engineering team, collaborating seamlessly with Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Sourcing, Quality, Logistics, Operations, Compliance, Manufacturing, and Material Vendors.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities: - Lead the development of packaging structures on select connected fitness unit programs, components, and spare parts (i.e., primary, secondary & tertiary packaging, pallet unit load, and load plans for containerization).
- Draft test plans and perform validation testing in accordance with recognized standards to ensure each package system complements the distribution strategy.
- Maintain detailed packaging specifications, BOMs, test reports, SOPs, and additional supporting documentation via the product lifecycle management system.
- Communicate engineering requirements and adhere to the cross-functional product development process; achieve timeline milestones, prototype sampling needs, and present engineering state-of-readiness in phase exit reviews.
- Audit packaging systems for continuity at the local level gemba; manufacturing floor, freight forwarders, cross docks, and final mile warehouses.
- Consider the customer's experience by integrating human factors, material handling, and sustainability into the design structure.
- Contribute to setting and strengthening the foundation of Package Engineering's global standards, objectives, and key results.
- Majority of the role will take place at NYHQ , with testing on-site at Linden NJ Distribution Center (approx. 1-2 times a month). Coordinate testing, review reports from those tests while working under the guidance of our senior engineers.
- Fill in the gaps for specifications on legacy products. Work directly with vendors and manufacturing partners to collect information and ensure it is input and housed in our databases.
- Contract only to start . Potential to extend after 6 months depending on performance, business need, etc.
Must-Haves: - 1-3 years in packaging development via hands-on industry and/or academia experience.
- B.S. Packaging Science / Engineering preferred (equivalent work experience acceptable). Experience can be at the university level.
- Ability to explain, select, and conduct relevant testing protocols (e.g., ISTA).
- Active use of packaging development tools (e.g., TOPS, ArtiosCAD).
- Experience using product lifecycle management systems (e.g., Windchill) - data management tool, doesn't need to be this specific tool.
- Familiarity with packaging industry publications, events, and/or certifications.
- Effective communication skills - written, verbal, etc.
- Passion for continued learning, taking on challenges proactively, and always finding the "can-do", hands-on solutions.
- Awareness of ISTA (packaging validation test).
- Awareness of TOPS tools.
