Job Description

Example of Duties:

• Under general supervision, performs field technical work for the County Meter Maintenance Department.
• Work involves reading water meters and recording consumption, installing, and repairing meters and associated equipment, and initiating and terminating service.
• Employee must exercise some independent judgment in completing assigned tasks.
• This position is responsible to perform a variety of duties in the operational area including but not limited to:
  • reading meters with automated meter reading hardware & software,
  • reading other miscellaneous meters with handheld computer or manual data collection, 
  • field repair of automated meter reading devices,
  • review, analyze, and update various meter reading and billing reports, and perform minor troubleshooting of computer problems pertaining to automated meter reading. 
• Employee must also exercise considerable tact, courtesy, and firmness in frequent contact with customers and the public. Reports to the Meter Reader Supervisor.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma;
• 2 years experience in meter reading or mechanical repair work;
• Or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Requirements:

• Valid North Carolina driver’s license is required upon hire and duration of employment.
  • Out of state driver’s license will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state.
• Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Records driver license check, as well as submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
• A criminal background check must be completed by the County of Robeson for potential applicants.
