Title:Jr. COBOL Developer (Subcontract at a Core BTS Client)

Job Summary:

Our client is seeking a Jr. COBOL Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist in the configuration, development, implementation, and support of information systems and applications. This role involves working with payroll and/or personnel applications, learning to design, develop, maintain, and enhance application functionality, and ensuring the smooth operation of our systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the configuration, development, implementation, and support of information systems and applications.
  • Learn to configure payroll and/or personnel applications (rules-based applications).
  • Develop and maintain COBOL programs under supervision.
  • Help design, develop, maintain, and enhance the functionality of applications.
  • Analyze functional specifications for application requests.
  • Consult with users to evaluate and determine business needs.
  • Document the functionality and requirements of the software.
  • Test and modify programs and code to ensure optimal performance and functionality.

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of COBOL development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Familiarity with legacy systems and related technologies (e.g., JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM) is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience or coursework in configuring payroll and/or personnel applications.
  • Familiarity with mainframe environments and tools is a plus.
