NEPC is looking for an Investment Director to join the Firm's Marketable Equity team. The Marketable Equity team is responsible for sourcing and analyzing public and hedge fund equity strategies as well as developing an implementation approach for our clients.

This individual will join a collaborative team and assume primary responsibility for investment strategies across NEPC's Hedged Equity strategies. In addition, this candidate may have supplemental coverage within the long-only public market space.


To be successful in this role, one must be highly motivated, intellectually curious, technically oriented, and a proficient writer. We are looking for a team player with excellent critical assessment capabilities and the ability to effectively communicate our investment insights to clients directly as well as through investment memos and research.

Job Summary:

Candidates for this position will most likely be serving in a comparable role at an asset owner, investment manager or consulting firm specializing in the hedge fund and/or public market space. The candidate will be responsible for the sourcing, reviewing, evaluating and analyzing of investment strategies, new and ongoing research within the coverage area and serving as the primary contact for those strategies. This includes identifying, interviewing and performing due diligence (qualitative and quantitative) on new and existing funds. In addition, the candidate will perform ongoing monitoring of the investment strategies within their assigned area of coverage and prepare quarterly/annual reports on developments.

  • Evaluating and analyzing investment strategies within the hedged equity space including long/short and sector focused hedge funds.
  • Developing research analysis, including investment memos, designed to summarize our opinion on investment managers and strategies.
  • Serving as key NEPC contact for internal and external constituents for assigned area of focus.
  • Conducting market research and publishing blog posts, white papers and other materials for coverage area.
  • A willingness and ability to travel to conduct evaluations investment managers and to present to clients is required.
  • Presenting manager evaluations to investment committees.
Job Qualifications:
  • 5-7+ years of investment experience specifically with manager and strategy selection
  • Bachelor's degree
  • CFA ® designation or CAIA ® designation (or progress towards these credentials)
  • Experience working with and/or evaluating Hedge Fund strategies would be a positive
  • Mature, professional demeanor and ability to present to clients and prospects is important, as that aspect of the role will increase with time
  • The most important qualifications are intellectual curiosity, strong work ethic, attention to detail, second-level thinking, and the ability to marry quantitative and qualitative frameworks to form investment recommendations
