As one of our premier Underwriters, you’ll be part of a team that stimulates production through independent agencies and then reviews insurance applications and evaluates their potential risk to Sentry. **What You’ll Do** Our Underwriters within Sentry’s Regional unit work closely with independent agents to underwrite, price and program individual policiesaccounts. **This opening can be filled at the Senior, Specialist or Specialist Senior level, depending on background and experience.** **This role will work with our Great Lakes Regional Office, and will transition to a hybrid work schedule sometime in 2025, requiring in-office days in Cincinnati, OH.** This is a great opportunity for an _experienced commercial lines insurance underwriter_ to advance to the next step in their career! As a **Commercial Lines Underwriter,** you will:

  • Work closely with sales producers to obtain information needed to properly prospect, underwrite and price policiesaccounts.
  • Via established procedures, and information collected underwrites the more complex risks. Refers business outside of authority limit.
  • Evaluate established underwriting procedures & guidelines for effectiveness and recommends change.
  • Provide large deductible & loss sensitive program options when appropriate.
  • Proactively provide feedback to Sales Teams and Underwriting Management regarding trends and issues within their assigned territory, while recommending solutions.
  • Work closely with other Commercial Lines functions to ensure service and quality objectives are met including rating, general services, audit, safety services, premium accounting, and customer service.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the insurance marketplace and emerging industry issues.
  • May be assigned project work requiring a high level of technical knowledge. May participate in audits or policy construction reviews.
  • Mentor other underwriters, give presentations, and conducts training on Underwriting procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties requiring the same general knowledge, skills, and degree of responsibility commensurate with assigned level.
  • *What it Takes**
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Required related commercial lines underwriting experience:
  • Minimum 2 years for an Underwriter Senior
  • Minimum 5 years for an Underwriter Specialist
  • 8+ years for an Underwriter Specialist Senior
  • Previous Commercial Property Casualty insurance underwriting experience
  • Completed insurance courses such as IIA andor CPCU preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commercial multi-line product line insurance concepts and terminology
  • Comprehensive knowledge of reinsurance and bond insurance
  • Excellent analytical, human relations and communication skills
  • Ability to meet limited travel requirements
