Description: Performs a variety of routine duties related to the preparation and serving of food; cleans kitchen area and
cooking utensils. Prepares snacks for the residents, patients and Senior Living.
Essential Job Functions: Essential job functions are to prepare, plan, organize, serve and cook to facility wide and special events.
Overall preparing and serving-70-80%
- Prepares snacks/nutritional supplement as prescribed by R.D.
- Previews menus and work orders to determine type and quantities of foods to be prepared
- Makes desserts and any prepping the cook needs
- Prepares sandwiches and specialty items as directed
- Prepares salad plates and a variety of salads as directed by the menu
- Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipes
- Uses a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment including grinders, slicers, mixers and blenders
- Ensures that all foods prepared meet existing standards for quality, freshness, taste and appearance
- Sets up and serves patient trays in accordance with established schedule and procedures
- Serve food as diets ordered and serve food to visitors and staff
- Receive payment for food and drinks from visitors and staff
- Carries dishes and foods between kitchen and serving lines
- Prepares coffee and tea for food service
- Prepares, loads, transports food carts
- May assist in putting groceries away
- Deliver trays to patient rooms
- Shall perform all other duties as assigned by those appointed to a position over you
- Assist with other positions as needed
Overall Sanitation-30%
- Carries dishes and food between kitchen and serving lines
- Operates dishwasher to ensure all dishes and utensils are clean
- Cleans the kitchen area and cooking utensils
- Collects, processes and disposes of trash, cans, bottles and similar debris and transports to disposal area.
- Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies
- Wipes off counters and tables and replenishes items as needed
- Participates in post meal cleanup tasks as assigned
- Clean items on cleaning schedule and signs when completed
- Sweep and mop dining room floor
- Resets all residents' tables for next meal
Overall Charting -5%
- Maintain percentage (food) records on residents
- Maintains department records, reports and files as required
Overall Continuous Professional Development-10%
- Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings
- Attends meetings as required
- Maintains department records, reports and files as required
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma: Preferred but not Required OR general education degree (GED)
Experience: Recommend some experience in cooking
Certificates: ServSafe preferred but not required
Language: Ability to read, write, and speak in English
Hours of Operation: Hours scheduled will include weekends and holidays
Reasoning Abilities: Ability to carry out detailed written and /or verbal instructions. Ability to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations. Working knowledge of sanitation procedures

- Exposed to heat, wetness, odors in kitchen and/or patient areas

Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stand continuously throughout a 12 hour shift
- Occasional heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs)
- Considerable prolonged, extensive standing/walking
- Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
