Job Overview:
The Assistant Athletic Director (AAD) will play a vital role in supporting the Athletic Director in the administration and management of the athletic programs at Northwest Indiana Lighthouse Charter Schools. The AAD will assist in organizing and coordinating all aspects of the athletic department, including athletic events, student-athlete development, and overseeing coaching staff. This role requires a deep commitment to student-athlete success, collaboration with various departments, and fostering a positive athletic culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Administration:
Assist in planning and coordinating the daily operations of athletic programs and events.
Support in the development and enforcement of athletic department policies and procedures.
Help manage equipment, and facilities.
Assist with organizing and overseeing team schedules, including practices, games, and travel arrangements.
Coaching Support:
Support and assist training, and evaluation of coaching staff.
Act as a liaison between coaches and the Athletic Director to ensure alignment with school goals and expectations.
Student-Athlete Development:
Foster an environment that promotes the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes.
Assist with monitoring student-athletes’ academic progress and eligibility.
Support initiatives related to student-athlete wellness, including mental health and physical health.
Event Management:
Support the Athletic Director in organizing and managing home athletic events, including game-day operations, logistics, and staffing.
Coordinate with other schools and organizations for away games and tournaments.
Support the Athletic Director with athletic events, ensuring that all events run smoothly.
5. Compliance and Safety:
Ensure that all athletic programs comply with school policies, state regulations, and relevant athletic associations (e.g., IHSAA, state high school athletic associations, etc.).
Help manage safety protocols for student-athletes, including emergency plans and injury protocols.
6. Community Engagement and Communication:
Act as a representative of the athletic department in school meetings, events, and functions.
Collaborate with parents, alumni, and the local community to promote the athletic programs.
Assist with the communication of athletic schedules, team results, and important announcements to the school community.
7. Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director to support the athletic department’s overall success.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in athletic administration, coaching, or related roles.
Skills:
Maintain professional demeanor with all key stakeholders
Evidence of strong leadership qualities
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Experience in budget management, event coordination, and staff supervision
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Experience in supervision and evaluation of coaching personnel
Physical Demands:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and reach during various athletic events
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (e.g., sports equipment, supplies)
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for athletic events and meetings
Work Environment:
This position will require working in both an office setting and at various athletic facilities (e.g., gymnasiums, fields)
Will be required to work in both indoor and outdoor environments with varying temperatures
